"How to Deal"
Everyone deals with their emotions in different ways. It can almost be left unsaid that dwelling on the negative can lead to a range of other damaging emotions. When faced with a negative situation, one can try to: 1. Talk through it with someone they trust and examine the part that they played in the situation. 2. Ask all parties involved specific unbiased questions to not only see the situation from their perspective, but uncover any miscommunication. 3. Avoid laying blame, lashing out and making drastic changes in their life until the issue is resolved. 4. Forgive, even if a resolution isn’t met to avoid becoming bitter. 5. Distract themself with an activity to avoid focusing on what has upset them. Unresolved feelings will only end in bitterness and disappointment, so it’s important to forgive and … Read entire article »

"One Kind Act"
In 2007, a movie, Evan Almighty, made quite the impact when an idea was conveyed during a conversation between God and the lead character Evan Baxter. When God asked Evan how we could change the world, he replied. “One single act of random kindness at a time.” It is that simple phrase that has inspired many to not only perform random acts of kindness, but also share them across the message boards, communities and organizations created to motivate others to embrace this movement. The only requirement is that these acts are done in a selfless way with the purpose of making another person happy. This could be as easy as helping someone carry things to their car, pay for the next person’s coffee, or even spending time with the elderly. What will … Read entire article »

Providing Bread for a Hungry World
Coming of age during the Great Depression, Norman Borlaug would eventually start the Green Revolution by creating high-yielding, short-strawed, disease-resistant wheat. After improving wheat production, Borlaug incorporated the same technique with rice. Both were put into extensive production to help food deficient countries become self-sufficient. Borlaug’s high-yielding crops stopped the threat of the mass famines that were predicted during the 1960’s. His contribution means that famines today are politically induced – not actual true natural disasters. This has earned Dr. Norman Borlaug many honours and awards including a Nobel Peace Prize to which the Nobel committee said, “More than any other single person of this age, he has helped provide bread for a hungry world.” Despite all of the positive aspects of his work, the Green Revolution was criticized by environmentalists. Borlaug … Read entire article »

"Full Body Presence"
(An Interview with author Suzanne Scrlock-Durana) What exactly do you mean by full body presence? When I talk about full body presence I mean my, or your, capacity to be present, to feel sensation, to know where you are and where you are not in your body. The definition in the book is “the ability to feel all parts of your body, with a good flow of healthy energy moving through you”. In order to have a healthy energy flow moving through you, you need connections to your inner and outer healthy resources – and you need to have a healthy sense of your personal boundaries. To know how to ground and fill up with whatever nourishes your cells. So what does full body presence give us as human beings? What is the payoff? It … Read entire article »
